I think the point about protest of porn channel on DSTV is simply that you don’t want to do anything to create support for such a market. Optimistically, one day it will all be computer-generated. But our perception here in the States is that, whatever you keep from your wife or how you lock the TV to protect your own kids, you are indirectly creating demand that puts the women and children in the shows in danger. I don’t have a strong view on this (mildly in favor of restrictions I suppose) but that’s the way the argument runs over here and I was a bit surprised you seemed unaware of it in SA.
Very interesting to hear of MTN’s ongoing billing debacle- it happens with other carriers but this could be the biggest example in recent years.
Michael – we were not paid for the interview. We’re all serious journalists and wouldn’t even consider taking money for that kind of thing. If we ever get paid for something on the ZA Tech Show it’ll be made obvious to anyone who’s listening. We’d also have better studio equipment
Dave was on the show as a legitimate guest. His company is a household name in South Africa and we thought (correctly so) that there would be a lot of interest in what he had to say.
We’re sorry if you didn’t like the interview, but I reiterate: we were NOT paid to do it and have no affiliation with or unusual regard for Incredible Connection.
Hi Guys.
Great show as always.
Just one comment on the DSTV Guide App. I haven’t tried the SuperSport app as yet but the DSTV Guide one is nothing but a nightmare for me. It takes forever to load the programme and channel information if at all. It at least once a week changes the “Selected channel list” from what I have selected to a random list. I’ve actually given up using it as I’m so tired of “resetting” it.

My coffee is made and ready, head phones on, but no podcast. O, well, let’s read the rest of the news in the mean time.

Shocked IC interview: I assume ZATECH was “paid” for this IC interview?
What absolute nonsense, I will challenge any IC store in Cape Town that other hardware suppliers in Cape Town can offer the exact same product for 20 – 50 % less.
As for Cape Town IC sales staff – I can provide you with multiple situations where consumers were incorrectly advised on their purchases, with staff lacking basic IT skills; hardware “repairs” that had to go back several times. Incorrectly configured hardware sold especially Acer products, etc.
They (IC) have realised that they can no longer make the huge profits of the past; as consumers are educating themselves and therefore the entry into the IT service sector.
I am rather disappointed in the profundity of the interview.
Regards
Mike
