Skype for iPhone now available

Skype for iPhone now available

Skype for iPhoneAn official Skype client for Apple’s iPhone is now available from the iTunes app store.

The development of an official client has been rumoured for some time and was confirmed by Skype on Monday.

Using the official Skype for iPhone application users can chat with friends via IM or make Internet telephony calls when connected to WiFi.

The mobile Skype client also supports Skype Out, allowing users to call conventional mobile and land-line phones, and other core features of the Skype service.

Until now iPhone users have had to rely on third-party applications Fring and Nimbuzz to make use of Skype services on their mobile devices. This relied on reverse-engineered hooks into the Skype platform given that Skype does not have an open API.

The official Skype iPhone client is available from this link.
